Inman Aligner

Your Inman Aligner was custom made especially for you. It is a complex and innovative appliance that uses two or four piston like components to generate corrective orthodontic forces. It is important to keep the appliance clean, so the pistons will function correctly. To clean your appliance,  soak it for 15 minutes in an appliance cleaner,  such as Retainer Brite.( A sample was included in your take home kit) or  a 1:1 white vinegar and water solution.  Brush gently and rinse thoroughly,

Important Tips:

  1. Store your Inman Aligner in it’s case when not in your mouth
  2. Clean the Aligner daily
  3. Wear the Aligner every day, at least 20 hours. The more you wear it, the faster your teeth will move.
  4. Always use your fingers to place the Aligner, never use your teeth to “bite” the Aligner into place. Using your teeth will lead to distortions or breakage of your Inman Aligner.
  5. Never expose your Aligner to heat; the heat will distort the appliance and it will not fit correctly
  6. Never boil it to clean or sterilize it
  7. Never leave the Aligner in your car during really hot or cold days
  8. Never wrap it in a napkin, when your take it out to eat. You risk throwing it away and not realizing that you left it in your napkin.

We suggest you try to wear the Inman aligner all the time except while eating and brushing your teeth. It will take about one to two weeks for you to completely acclimate to the aligner. You may experience some difficulties with speech and/or might salivate more during this period of acclimation. The longer you wear the appliance per day, the shorter your treatment time will be.

If wearing the Inman Aligner at work is not an option, then at least wear it from the time you get home and through the night. It will take longer than the 6-9 week period to straighten your teeth. You always have the option not to wear the Aligner during important business or social occasions. This is one of the major advantages of the Inman Aligner over conventional braces. The Aligner applies continuous low grade pressure to move the teeth. This continuous pressure is how it moves teeth so quickly, unlike the Invisalign muti-appliance method. The disadvantage to the Inman Aligner is that it is bulkier and may interfere with speech.

In order to keep the bars in their most active positions, resin buttons may be bonded to the teeth. If these buttons make the tongue or lip sore, you can place orthodontic wax over the button when you are not wearing the Aligner. With the Aligner in place, you should not be aware of the buttons. You can also use a canker sore ointment such as Zilactin B gel on the sore area.
