At Home Whitening Instructions:

Brush and Floss your teeth just prior to whitening.

Carefully apply drops of desensitizer liquid directly onto cotton tip until swab is moist. Firmly rub the desensitizer soaked swab on the teeth and especially along the gum line and biting surfaces.  Add additional drops as necessary to keep the swab moist.  Try your best to keep your lips and tongue away from the teeth as you rub the desensitizer on teeth for a full minute, wait 30 seconds and then rinse with water.

Squeeze a very small dab of whitening gel into trays. Apply to only the teeth to be bleach. Avoid back molars. Place tray onto your teeth and gently push or tap tray against the teeth as shown on the instructional DVD. You should see just a tiny bit of bleach gel “peek out” from under the edge of the bleaching tray.

Wear bleaching trays all night. In the morning, remove trays, rinse mouth and brush teeth. After brushing, apply the Tooth Desensitizer.  For most patients, applying desensitizer in the morning and 2 evenings after starting  bleaching is sufficient to control sensitivity. However, in some cases, reapplying desensitizer more often may be necessary.

Avoid staining foods, like red wine, black coffee and tea, and berries.  Keep the gel in the refrigerator and away from heat.

Care of the Whitening Trays:

Rinse Trays with cool water after use.  DO NOT USE HOT WATER, as it may distort the trays.  Store the trays in the cases provided when not in use.

For Tooth Sensitivity:

1)  Fill trays with any desensitizing paste.  (Pro-Enamel Sensitivity Toothpaste, Sensodyne, or MI Paste)

2)  Wear trays for 30 minutes 1 to 2 times per day.

3)  Apply desensitizer liquid  to teeth in the AM after a night of bleaching following regular brushing and flossing.

4) Take 2 Ibuprofen or Tylenol for pain as needed.

For Gum Sensitivity:

Use warm salt water rinses ( 1 teaspoon per 1 cup of warm water)

Apply vaseline to gums before bleaching.

 Special Notes:

Gum line areas may appear darker than rest of teeth, this happens when enamel is thin  from toothpaste abrasion or gum recession. Roots will not lighten. White spots in teeth may become more apparent during the beaching process. The color may look to opaque or chalky. This is normal and the color should even out a week or two after whitening is finished.

While the results of the KOR whitening are permanent, the teeth will re-stain over time and to keep the color, maintenance is necessary.  For average stain, you should wear your KOR Whitening Trays while you slep at least one night per month for protection against darkening.
